HCBS: Habilitation, Respite & Attendant Care

Habilitation & Respite Care for Children in Greater Phoenix
At Therapy Matters, our impact is not just confined to our therapy center. We’re dedicated to supporting you and your loved ones through direct home & community-based services (HCBS) such as habilitation, respite, and attendant care.
What is Habilitation?
Habilitation is all about building your loved one’s abilities from the ground up. With the help of our direct support professionals, your loved one will work on acquiring new skills that are foundational for everyday life like walking, talking, hygiene, safety, pre-vocational skills, leisure activities, and more. These services are geared toward individuals with autism or other developmental delays, helping them learn confidently with goals defined by their Individual Support Plan (ISP). We also train parents and caregivers to provide habilitation to their loved ones.
You know as well as we do that caregiving is hard work, especially in raising a child with developmental challenges. With pediatric respite care, you grow your support team, spreading the responsibility of meeting your loved one’s needs and comfort. Our trained professionals provide a much-needed break, giving you time to rest and focus on yourself. Depending on your family’s needs, we can provide respite care for children in your home, our facility, or out in the community. We can also train relatives, neighbors, and other community members to provide respite care.
Your health and resilience are just as important to your loved one’s success and our flexible respite care for children with special needs gives you something to lean on while also promoting social engagement for your loved one.
Maybe your loved one just needs an extra set of hands to accomplish daily tasks like bathing, dressing, feeding, household maintenance, and taking medication. If that’s the case, attendant care can help fill in the gaps in their abilities or your time. Not only does this ongoing service ensure their day-to-day needs are being met, it also provides an opportunity to build a meaningful relationship outside their family. Asking for help is a sign of strength and we encourage you to reach out to us to discuss your unique attendant needs.
All of our HCBS services are offered to families directly in their homes throughout Maricopa County, including Phoenix, Chandler, Glendale, and more. Often, habilitation, respite, and attendant care include supported excursions into the community such visits to parks, errands at the grocery store, a trip on the bus, and more. By delivering these services in real-life contexts, individuals can apply their skills, enhance their independence, and engage socially.
Step one is to get in touch with our team to begin the intake process. We’ll discuss your family’s unique needs and work together to develop a plan for how we can achieve your loved one’s goals and support you as a caregiver. We’ll guide you through the process of getting pediatric HCBS services covered with your insurance and then begin scheduling habilitation, respite, and attendant care for you and your loved one.
